Florence

Florence is the capital of the region of Tuscany in Italy, with a population of about 366,500. The city is considered a cultural, artistic and architectural gem. It’s the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. Politically, economically, and culturally it was the most important city in Europe for around 250 years. It’s the place where Gallileo pioneered the study of optics and astronomy, and Machiavelli laid the groundwork for our understanding of political science.

Home of the Opera and the Medici family, and some of the most important works of art by Ghiberti, Donatello, Massaccio, Botticelli, Michelangelo and Leonardo. In all, Florence has something over 80 museums, at the top of list is the Palazzo Vecchio, a building with magnificent rooms and some great art.
